A personal reinterpretation of Urza, Lord High Artificer, one of the most iconic characters from Magic: The Gathering, created for the Spanish YouTube channel Commander BCN.
The artwork was created as an exclusive collectible for their community, reimagining the original card art through my personal style while preserving Urza’s iconic identity, imposing presence, and key design elements, with a playful and humorous touch.
From Card Art to Playmat
The project also included a variation of the artwork specifically adapted for a playmat, allowing the illustration to become part of the physical experience of playing Commander.
The composition was redesigned to work across a larger horizontal format, preserving the focal point and visual impact while creating enough breathing room for cards placed on top of the surface.
This approach allowed the same artwork to exist in two different contexts:
a collectible art piece and a functional gaming accessory.
The final result combines Magic: The Gathering-inspired fantasy, mechanical design, and collectible culture, creating an artwork designed specifically for the passionate Commander community.
